Coach Sorrel was not only my coach for 4 years in collegiate equestrian, but has since become a very close friend. She is someone I look to as a role model, both personally and professionally. She has had a significant impact on my life and I’m not sure where I would be without her. When recruiting me to South Carolina, her first priority was getting me into a school that would be a good fit for me, even if that wasn’t her school. Her prioritization of the athlete, before the university is something I will always admire about her. Picking South Carolina under her guidance was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I would recommend her guidance to any young equestrian looking at their collegiate choices. Coach Sorrel’s experience and track record speaks for itself!

Having Ruth as a coach for four years was truly an honor. Despite being a hunt seat rider, she was always my biggest fan, both in and out of the ring, and was always someone I could count on. Her encouragement and positivity were never lacking and was something we as a team strongly benefitted from

During my four years at USC, my team and I accomplished amazing feats; we won 3 SEC Championships and the 2015 National Championship. One of the driving forces behind all the success was of course, Coach Ruth. Ruth had a way of pushing us when we needed a kick in the rear and keeping the mood light when times were tough. Being one of the most level headed people I have ever met, she was also a source of incredible advice and knew how to get the most out of the team. Ruth always had a smile on her face and words of welcome to new students or freshmen, making you feel at home instantly. I am grateful to have gotten to know Ruth and feel lucky to still have her as a friend and mentor past my collegiate career.

"Not only was Ruth an amazing coach but she is an even better person and friend. She genuinely cares about every girl she has coached and wants to see us succeed in life. She always had my best interest in mind and will be someone who I know will be there for me no matter what!"

Ruth played a pivotal role in my collegiate career from the beginning. From my recruiting process forward, I always felt she was someone I could tell anything to, whether it be related to horses or not. She has a knack for always knowing the right thing to say to make me feel better or to motivate me to be the best I can be. Working with Ruth when I was captain during my senior year was an extra special experience. She gave me the confidence I needed when I felt like I wasn’t succeeding. Without Ruth, my life as a student athlete would have been lacking. She made all the difference for me and so many of my teammates. I am grateful that Ruth continues to be a part of my life after college, and I highly encourage anyone who has the chance work with her to do so. Ruth is truly an incredible person with a positive spirit and encouraging nature.
